March 12, 2013 Board Meeting Minutes

Lincoln Carnegie Library Board Meeting
March 12, 2013

Members Present:  Anne Grace, Terry Broberg, Patrisha Street, Kathy Moss
Librarians:  Nancy Jensen

Anne called the meeting to order.  Terry made the motion to approve the minutes from the February meeting.  Kathy seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Our new Library Board members are Patrisha Street and Karen Jeffers.

Terry explained about the spray that was used on the Box elder bugs.  It has helped greatly in reducing the number of bugs.

Rose Gourley from City Hall was here to explain where the Library gets its money.  She passed out copies of the city budget.  She informed us how the taxes were raised concerning evaluation on the property.  There is also a little money from the vehicle taxes.  It was very informative.

Librarians’ Report:  Nancy passed out the 2012 Standards for Kansas Public Libraries.  Our Library is doing just fine.
Nancy and Mary are trading days for the month of March.
CKLS is giving the Library a free computer.  We will replace the computer on the 3rd position.
Nancy is weeding out the adult fiction books.  She is as far as Ms.
The Library has received a check for $18,500 from the city.  As yet the Library hasn’t received any funding from CKLS or the State.
The Library was closed one day (Feb 21) due to the snow storm.

Reports of Board Members:
Terry has been to see the new chairs at M&J.  They will need to be scotch guarded before they are ready for the Public to enjoy.

The Friends of the Library will pay for the shades and installation from Ellenz of Tipton.

Kathy made the motion to pay the B&K Elevator bill.  Terry seconded the motion.

Terry made the motion to accept the Proctoring Policies and Procedures.  Kathy seconded the motion.

Anne shared with the Board about the books she has taken to the Lincoln Park Manor for the residents to enjoy.  She will continue to take more books out when she brings the ones that are there back to the Library.

Anne also brought 4 bags she purchased for the patrons of the Library to use to hold their books will they browse for more books.

Anne thought maybe some of the 6th grade students would like to help with the summer library programs or when volunteers are needed.

Terry and Anne will attend the next city council meeting in April.  They will see if the drop box and the bike rake can be moved.  A book drop you could access without getting out of your car would be very beneficial for those patrons who are mobility challenged.

The Mission statement will be on the agenda for the April Library Board Meeting.

The Library will be having it’s 100th year celebration in April 2014.  We are anticipating that the Friends of the Library and the Library Board can come together to have something spectacular for the community.  We will discuss this later.

Dennis Cross is to repair the front door but he hasn’t started on it yet.  Terry will see what can be done.  It has to be repaired a certain way to be on the Historical Register.

Kathy made the motion to adjourn.  Terry seconded the motion.  Meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be on Aril 9, 2013 at 5 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Moss, just filling in for Lynne
